In August and September, despite cuts in Government spending, two local schools put their trust in Fulcrum to carry out major kitchen refurbishments.
Wilton & Barford CE Primary School in Wilton, near Salisbury and All Saints CE Primary School in Netheravon carried out major refits of their catering facilities.
Maddie Biddlecombe at Wilton & Barford was tasked with managing the strip-out of the very old Stott Benham ‘Module 36’ kitchen, dating back to late 70’s and reclaiming part of this large area for classroom use. The kitchen was to be rationalised and kitted out with just the equipment required to serve the current and future school meal demands anticipated.
Fulcrum were praised for their professional approach and knowledgeable guidance, producing high-quality design proposals and practical advice. Again quality equipment was specified and supplied but some existing fabrication and an existing ‘Bartlett’ range were re-used to ease the overall spend.
The kitchen extraction system and gas interlock were all included in Fulcrum’s remit.
Close liaison throughout ensured a positive and co-operative relationship with the client and building contractors to a successful completion. To quote the Wilton & Barford Primary School website: “We are truly happy with the results”

Wilton & Barford New Kitchen

At All Saints, Netheravon the brief was slightly different. The kitchen project here was part of a new-build and refurbishment of existing Hall and Dining Room which had been heroically serving school meals from a tiny kitchen facility.

All Saints Cooksuite

Head Teacher, Hayley Humphris and school Admin Officer, Lynn Woods later indicated that it was Fulcrum’s level of professionalism at the design proposal stage which ultimately won the contract. Both were reassured by the lack of any ‘hard sell’ and an enthusiasm to offer helpful advice.

All Saints Wash-up

As with many building contracts Fulcrum were squeezed into the end of a very tight programme and had to work around other contractors late finishing and a late delay to our initial delivery and load-out. Despite this we raised no additional costs for our installation. A firm price was honoured which is the way we always work. The cooksuite utilised an existing Stotts fryer (to which we added a fryer guard), an upright fridge and a chest freezer but the remainder of the kitchen was kitted out with new quality equipment.
Again Fulcrum provided the kitchen extraction and supply-air system – no gas interlock this time as we were dealing with an all-electric installation.

As a final note we would like to thank Dolman Surveyors of Devizes for their steadfast design and management of the building contracts at both of the above projects.
If there are any schools thinking of carrying out a kitchen refurbishment in the coming months, we would welcome the opportunity to offer our services and guidance in tendering for your kitchen fit-outs. We will gladly support this with references from the many previous school projects we have been awarded.

The Three Tuns – Great Bedwyn

Fulcrum has recently completed the design, supply and installation of equipment in the kitchen at the Three Tuns PH in Great Bedwyn.
Bought by London chef James Wilsey and his wife Ashley the pub has had a complete makeover and has just re-opened after a full 6-month refurbishment. An exciting new menu at very affordable prices is underway and the cosy interior makes dining very relaxed and comfortable with open inglenook fireplace and log-burner for the Winter months. Bare wood floors, beams and hops abound!
Fulcrum won the kitchen contract through their ‘highly professional and competitive approach’ to the design process. Tight access and concentration on providing quality equipment within a strict budget were two of the main constraints presented in the original brief.
Fulcrum’s design showed the best interpretation of James’s demanding requirements in the kitchen and our specification reflected the sincerity to provide equipment we felt was right for our client – never that which we thought might be cheap enough to win us the job. An unswerving company policy.
Project Management of the job, including difficult liaison with other contractors, was ably carried out by Steve Dick.
As well as the core catering equipment Fulcrum also supplied the bespoke extraction system (cut around ceiling beams) and gas interlock system for Gas Safe compliance.
