UP, UP AND AWAY: Fulcrum Installs New Prep Rooms (Air-side) at Luton Airport

On December 17th, 2012, posted in: All by david
Fulcrum has recently completed the supply and installation of equipment in a food preparation unit for one of our best customers at a new site in the Luton Airport terminal building.
This is the first airport scheme Fulcrum has undertaken carrying with it the inevitable access complexities of working air-side.
Delivery and installation, including co-ordination of the sub-contract team installing the Cold Room, became an involved and time-consuming administrative process. Nonetheless, all requests had to be strictly adhered to otherwise access to working areas would not have been possible. Method Statement and Risk Assessments flew around in abundance!
In these instances, where some contractors patience was at times boiling over, we always take a stoic approach and try to be as helpful as possible – not only to the authorities involved but other contractors too. A positive attitude always aids progress…………..
Main Contractors, Betacroft, with project management from Marzec Associates managed to also keep their cool is some very demanding situations throughout – without this quite simply the job would never have been completed.

Sink and Dishwasher Installation

Last minute changes threw further challenges into the project, giventhe access constraints, but we completed the job on time and on budget.
The unit is now producing high-quality deli meals to the Departure Lounge for hungry air travellers, oblivious to the fun and games of the past 6 weeks!

WESTMINSTER ABBEY CELLARIUM CAFE OPENED BY HRH DUKE OF EDINBURGH – Fulcrum’s kitchen and serveries in full-swing!

On October 23rd, 2012, posted in: All by david
David Burnett attended the official opening of the Cellarium Cafe at Westminster Abbey on 17 October where Prince Phillip unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion. Fulcrum designed, supplied and installed the Main Kitchen, Cold Room, extract canopy, fire suppression system and gas interlock system.
A highly complex build with many cutting-edge technologies, the construction also faced a highly pressured programme which clearly presented a unique set of challenges. Offering help and flexibility throughout to Main Contractors, Noble & Taylor, we were rewarded with a prestigious scheme to add to our portfolio, despite the higher than average stress levels! Calm man-management & contractor liaison being key to keeping everything on track……

Caterers, Benugo, fully suited for the presentation!

Compact Wash-up in area in full flow

Part of the contract was the fit-out of the Basement and First Floor servery areas with a mix of high-end countering including American oak, white marble and Corian finishes around stainless steel frames and sinks. Equipment included premium bottle cooling, espresso coffee stations, waiters stations and meet’n’greet pedestals.

Architects, Panter Hudspith, were in close liaison with Fulcrum throughout co-ordinating technical issues back of house as well as the design front-of-house where impact was of utmost importance. The final result sat comfortably within the setting of the Cellarium’s ancient walls

Caterers Benugo provided a spectacular array of delicious canapés for the well-attended function and early reports are that Head Chef, Earl and Managers, Jo and Harry are very happy indeed with the layout of the kitchen and it’s capability to serve both daily cafe service but also busy events such as the Royal opening.
