Free School Meal Initiative 2014

On February 7th, 2014, posted in: All by david
In January 2014, Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove and the Minister of State for Schools, David Laws, issued a letter to all Head teachers of Primary Schools across England. This letter detailed plans, to come into play in September 2014, to provide all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 with free school meals.
To prepare themselves for this new legislation many Head Teachers are having to think of updating their existing catering facilities.
Here at Fulcrum we have carried out many kitchen refurbishments in primary schools throughout Wiltshire – these have included Minster School in Warminster, Wansdyke Primary School in Devizes, Wilton & Barford School near Salisbury and most recently Cherhill Primary School Calne.
“A huge thank you to Dave and the team at Fulcrum who fitted our new school kitchen. They provided expert advice, design and installation, all within a tight time frame and an even tighter budget and still managed to be professional and supportive. Well done”
Wilton & Barford School
Fulcrum is already in discussions with primary schools in Wiltshire and neighbouring counties offering budget conscious solutions to this additional burden about to be placed on their catering facilities.
If you have found yourself affected by this new legislation we would be happy to offer our services to you.

The Great Court Restaurant, The British Museum

On February 4th, 2014, posted in: All by david
In September 2012 Fulcrum were approached by Benugo requesting that they undertook the kitchen design and installation for the prestigious Great Court Resturant in the Bristish Museum, London.
Benugo, who run deli’s and catering sites at a number of historic sites and museums  across the UK, planned with the British Museum for the refurbishment to commence from September 2013. Benugo wanted to create a more welcoming eating environment for first time customers which offered fine dining  as well as being perfect for light lunches and informal snacks.
Softroom Architects completed the overall design development in early 2013 and then approached contractors to tender to their detailed design schedule.
The British Museum requested that the fit-out was completed out just prior to Christmas 2013. Fulcrum’s design included an open kitchen for the new Resturant as suggested by Softroom, to create a ‘theatre cookery’ environment. This would allow diners to see the Chef’s at work preparing meals. We also completed drawing designs of the Bar and wash-up areas seen below:

During the refurbishment Fulcrum worked closely with construction main contractor Coniston, who run major design and build projects in London and across the South East. Coniston oversaw the strip out of the exisiting resturant and carried out the building work for the refurbishment.

The fitting was very challenging on a number of fronts. Firstly Fulcrum were required to co-ordinate the fitting of the kitchen equipment, counters and stone cladding to a frequently changing building programme. This meant that our fitters
needed to be very flexible in order to accommodate this. Secondly, as the British Museum was still open to visitors during this refurbishment, equipment deliveries needed to be carefully pahsed and needed to be manually up to the second floor of the Great Court between 7:30 and 9:00am. Dovetailing our installation with a multitude of other specialist trades, within a very ‘liquid’ programme was probably the most difficult projct to manage in the last 25 years! However, despite these challenges, Fulcrum completed the refurbishment to the clients specification within 3 weeks.

Gwenneth Rickus Primary School

On January 15th, 2014, posted in: All by cherida
Fulcrum recently completed the full Kitchen installation at Gwenneth Rickus Primary School in Wembley, North West London.

Gwenneth Rickus Primary School

Gwenneth Rickus is a traditional Victorian school building which has until recently only been partially used as a primary school. Due to a shortage of primary school places in the borough, Brent Council approved a refurbishment of the remaining part of the building so that it can be fully restored as a major working primary school.
In December 2013, due to unforeseen circumstances with a previous kitchen contractor, Fulcrum were contacted by GMS Building Services Ltd with an urgent request for us to tender for the kitchen supply & installation package. We also needed to develop the design at a very late stage before finalising our drawings. Fulcrum reacted quickly to the challenging schedule and within 72 hours of meeting with the client, a design had been developed, and a drawing and specification produced. Impressed by the speed of turnaround, GMS then instructed us to proceed.

Gwenneth Rickus School Kitchen Floor Plan

During the refurbishment we worked closely with Glen Gill and Ross Capuzza of GMS Building Services Ltd, a construction company based local to the site in London NW2. GMS were responsible for completing the building works, the wall finishes, installing the flooring and lighting and all Mechanical and Electrical services. Fulcrum then supplied and fitted all the equipment and bespoke fabrications, to the agreed specification and design.

Despite a challenging schedule the finished kitchen was completed efficiently and to a high standard will prove an asset in Gwenneth Rickus school’s expansion.
